What Change May Come

The Autumn Equinox is upon us, and now is a great time to set new intentions as we shift into a new season.

 Season of the Senses

“Use what you have, use what the world gives you. Use the first day of fall: bright flame before winter’s deadness; harvest; orange, gold, amber; cool nights and the smell of fire. Our tree-lined streets are set ablaze, our kitchens filled with the smell of nostalgia; apples bubbling into sauce, roasting squash, cinnamon, nutmeg, cider, warmth itself. The leaves as they spark into wild color just before they die are the world’s oldest performance art, and everything we see is celebrating one last violently hued hurrah before the black and white silence of winter.”

— Shauna Niequist, Bittersweet: Thoughts on Change, Grace, and Learning the Hard Way

Turn on your awareness this fall, so that every move that you make along your journey is as vibrant as the colors emerging all around you. The more in-tune you are with yourself, the more specific you can be with the intention you set as you move forward.

See the full expanse of golden orange and fiery red foliage as morning sunlight begins to shine through branches, and taste the crisp air as it breaks open your breath. Hear the crunch of fallen leaves roll underneath your soles with every step, smell the earth as its soil swells open in its last emergence before it settles under snow, and feel the light around you radiate your skin.

Set Your Intentions

Accepting change fully begins being grateful for all that it reveals. Instead of thinking of change as challenging your way of being, consider that change is the catalyst for inspiration. With newness comes possibility, so set some new intentions for this season from a place of awareness and dedication of your journey, bringing in joy along the way.

To set an intention, you can simply fill in a simple phrase, like: I commit to ______________, because it will enliven my life by bringing in more ______________.

Write down your intentions and put them in a place where you can see them every day. Any moment when you feel off course, realign with your path and just keep moving forward.
